operations manager

Summary: 
Operations Manager is an exempt position that ensures the organization is running like a well-oiled machine. Duties include streamlining and improving business processes, spearheading long-term business planning, and analyzing the effectiveness of existing business functions.  Operations Manager fulfills all of these responsibilities in order to facilitate and sustain an organization’s growth.

Essential Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Keeps an eye on multiple areas within the company, assuring productivity and efficiency while seeking to reduce costs.
  • Regularly monitor expenses and curtail a department’s spending if necessary, to keep the company on budget.
  • Engage in cost-benefit analysis, seeking to obtain the best price for materials and oversee production methods so that output is at peak efficiency levels.
  • Manage the supply chain procedure and inventory tracking methods. Maintain accurate cost and pricing information.  Have eyes on the entire process and can intervene and make adjustments as needed.
  • Manage other key individuals within several departments and guide groups of people to complete their individual tasks in order to achieve company-wide goals.
  • Determine needs within the company and connect groups to work together to solve problems as they arrive.
  • Be a critical thinker who can analyze situations and make decisions geared toward the company’s best interests rather than those of a single department.
  • Resolve conflicts as they arise between employees and set policies and guidelines for how to complete tasks.
  • Manage people effectively using good listening, motivation and communication skills. Foster a cooperative and harmonious working climate conductive to maximize employee morale and productivity.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of operations and production management.
  • Must have mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
  • Effective decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial data as needed to set production goals.
  • Knowledge of customer management tools, budgeting and accounting software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Previous Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field.  10+ years’ experience in a leadership role.  5+ years’ experience in the manufacturing sector.  Experience with developing budgets and writing business plans.
